Course Overview

The Steel Fixing course is an intensive, hands-on training program designed to equip participants with the practical skills required to prepare, fabricate, assemble, and install reinforcement steel for reinforced concrete structures. The course focuses on the interpretation of structural drawings, bar bending schedules (BBS), reinforcement detailing, steel cutting and bending, reinforcement fixing, quality control, and construction safety for residential, commercial, industrial, and infrastructure projects.

Participants will gain practical experience using industry-standard tools and equipment to fabricate and fix reinforcement for foundations, columns, beams, slabs, staircases, retaining walls, and other structural elements. Through workshop-based training and live construction projects, learners will develop the competence to execute reinforcement works that meet engineering specifications, construction standards, and quality requirements.

Duration: 4 Weeks (20 Training Days)

Tuition: KES 50,000/=

Course Requirements

Participants should have:

  • Basic literacy and numeracy skills.
  • An interest in construction, civil engineering, or structural works.
  • No prior experience in steel fixing is required.
  • Basic knowledge of construction tools is an added advantage.
  • Appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including safety boots, gloves, hard hat, safety glasses, and reflective vest.
  • A notebook, calculator, measuring tape, steel rule, and basic marking tools for practical sessions.
  • Willingness to participate in intensive workshop and site-based practical training.

Course Objectives

By the end of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Interpret structural drawings and Bar Bending Schedules (BBS).
  • Identify reinforcement steel grades, sizes, and accessories used in construction.
  • Measure, cut, bend, and shape reinforcement bars accurately.
  • Fabricate reinforcement cages for foundations, columns, beams, slabs, and staircases.
  • Install reinforcement according to engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Position reinforcement using spacers, chairs, ties, and supports.
  • Inspect reinforcement works before concrete placement.
  • Estimate reinforcement materials, labor, and project costs.
  • Apply occupational health, safety, and quality control practices on construction sites.
  • Complete reinforcement projects that comply with structural engineering and construction standards.
